Questions people actually ask

Straight answers. No corporate speak.

General

No. Zing is a technology platform — a two-sided marketplace. We don't employ the workers. We don't decide who works where. We provide the tools, the data, and the matching. Restaurants and workers find each other and make their own choices. We're closer to how Airbnb connects hosts and guests than how a temp agency assigns workers.

No. Gig apps let anyone grab a shift with no real vetting, no assessment, and no accountability. Zing assesses every worker across 6 professional dimensions, builds permanent profiles with compounding ratings, and creates genuine two-way relationships between restaurants and workers. Think of it as a professional network for hospitality, not a gig marketplace.

Since 2019. We've facilitated over 15,000 shifts across Toronto. We survived COVID — which hit our industry harder than almost any other — because a handful of loyal restaurant partners stuck with us through it. That history gave us the data foundation that powers everything we do today.

Yes, right now. We're focused on Toronto because we believe in building deep before building wide. We know this city's hospitality scene — the restaurants, the workers, the unique challenges. When we expand, it'll be because the model is proven here first.

For restaurants

Zing uses transparent, flat pricing — not the 25-35% markups you're used to from staffing agencies. You see exactly what you're paying. The worker sees exactly what they're earning. No hidden fees, no surprises. Contact us for current rates.

Most shifts posted the evening before are filled by the next morning. For well-rated restaurants with a history on the platform, it can be faster — workers want to pick up shifts at places they know are good to work at.

It happens rarely, but when it does, it's recorded permanently on their profile. Reliability is one of the most heavily weighted factors in our matching. Workers who no-show see their match quality drop fast. We also have cancellation policies that protect restaurants.

Yes — and we encourage it. Unlike staffing agencies that charge placement fees or restrict direct hiring, Zing has a clear path from temporary shifts to full-time employment. You've already seen them work your floor with real performance data. That's a better hiring process than any interview.

Servers, bartenders, line cooks, prep cooks, hosts, bussers, food runners, barbacks, dishwashers, and event staff. Front-of-house and back-of-house. We have Teammates across 26 hospitality roles.

For workers

The restaurant pays Zing, and Zing pays you. Payment is transparent — you see your rate before accepting any shift. Payments are processed promptly after shift completion. No surprises, no deductions you didn't agree to.

Not necessarily. If you're new to hospitality, Zing will match you with entry-level roles like dishwasher, busser, food runner, or barback to start. As you build your ratings and prove yourself, more roles and better restaurants open up. Everyone starts somewhere.

It starts with a personality and work-style questionnaire (about 10 minutes). Then there's an in-person component where we evaluate you across 6 dimensions: technical skill, grooming, communication, motivation, adaptability, and warmth. It's not a test you pass or fail — it's a profile that shows who you are as a worker.

That's the whole point. You pick shifts at restaurants you choose, on a schedule you control. Some Teammates work at 3-5 restaurants regularly. Your profile, your ratings, and your reputation travel with you to each one.

You rate them too. Two-way reviews mean restaurants that treat workers badly get lower scores — and the best workers avoid them. You see restaurant profiles and past worker reviews before accepting any shift. You always have a choice.

Yes. Zing's assessment looks at who you are, not where you're from. Many of our Teammates are newcomers to Canada building their first hospitality profile in Toronto. Your ZingCard becomes your local professional identity from shift one.
